“Fine…I’ll just do it myself.”
Sound familiar?
It seems like people just don’t seem to do things EXACTLY the way we want or, when we want.
So, we stop delegating, we overburden ourselves and we rob someone else of the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.
The solution? Mutually agreed upon expectations.
Here’s the easiest way to set everyone up for success.
1 – Set Expectations EARLY – It’s difficult to change the direction of a runaway train, so lets get it pointed in the righ direction at the very beginning. Setting clear expectations eary allows room for training, adjustments and refinement.
2 – Make Them Attainable – An often ignored, yet extremely important detail. There’s nothing more frustrating than working towards futility. Achievable expectations set the stage for enthusiasm, confidence, AND success.
3 – Agree on Metrics – Progress and success can be measured and infinite number of ways. The important part is that IS measured. Tracking metrics is a great way to keep focused, celebrate successes and collect data integral to refining what you want to accomplish.
4 – Review Progress Regularly – Checking in often to find out how you can SUPPORT a teammate is one of the simplest and easiest ways to guarantee success. Aim for “what do you need from me?” You’ll get a better response than… “Did you do what I asked?”
5 – Use a Central Hub – Naamly is a great tool for this but there are many options available. Keeping project info and tracking in a centralized, preferably digital space, makes communication significantly easier and exponentially more effective.
